Frequently asked question

Do the two outlets work independently of one another?

They don't. Good for two lamps you always use together but they are a pair.

Can i dim a plugged in lamp with echo?

Yes, once you pair the Amazon Echo with Caseta, you can tell Echo to dim the Caseta dimmers.

Can you control two lamps separately using app?

Yes. If you have lamps each plugged into their own module then you can control each lamp separately as long as you configure each module in the app.

Can more than one of these lamp dimmers be controlled by the wireless wall switch or Pico remote?

Yes. I have 3 controlled by one switch.

Works well but overkill for my needs

The builder of our new unit in a retirement community made some bad design choices in matching outlets and switches. A switch next to the bedroom door controls outlets on each side of the best bed location. If bedside lamps with 3-way switches were available, this would be OK, but usually results in the wrong switch being on or off. The outlet behind the dresser that holds the two lamps that provide general illumination in the bedroom is not switched. We use this unit in the outlet behind the dresser and control it with a Caseta mini remote mounted in an extended Decora switch plate next to the door. I would prefer the functionality of this unit in an outlet that could directly replace the one now in the wall. Lutron makes such an outlet in a different line, but at about $125, it is more than twice the price of this unit. I do not want or need the ability to control the switch using my phone or Alexa and suspect that a much simpler unit could be made for much less.
Having outlets on the side of the unit mean that it does not force the dresser to be pulled out from the wall to accommodate the lamp plugs. Its thickness is about the same as the combined thickness of the baseboard and floor moulding so the dresser is as close to the wall as it can get.
My only complaint is the narrow viewing angle for the led that is used in pairing the switch with its remote. With the unit plugged in behind the dresser, the led could not be seen. I solved the problem by using an extension cord for the pairing, then moving the unit to the outlet once it was paired. The unit has worked perfectly since it was installed.

Says count of 1 but they sent me a 3 pack

I’ve used and been happy with these before. But sending me 3 seems like an unexpected win. Makes the price make more sense. The description though emphasizes count of one.

Works great, but only for dimmable lamps

This is a great way to control a dimmable lamp. The Lutron Caseta system is by far the most reliable part of my HomeKit system. I try to use it wherever I can, rather than using smart plugs by other brands.
However, this lamp module does have some limitations: Most importantly, it’s designed only for use with dimmable lamps. I tried to use it with some LED fairy lights that aren’t dimmable. When I would turn off the lights, they would still light up just barely. Apparently the smart plug is till letting some electricity trickle through even when off.
I also tried using it with fan, and that works. However, HomeKit sees it as a light rather than a fan, and there is no way to change that. In other words, when I say ‘Hey Siri, turn on the bedroom lights,’ it’ll turn on the fan also. I worked around that by putting the fan into its own HomeKit room called ‘Bedroom Fan.’
One important note: If you’re using this with a non-dimmable device (like fairy lights or a fan), then you can put the switch into a non-dimmable mode where it becomes a basic on/off switch. Although that didn’t fix my problem with the fairy lights.
Anyway, if you use this for its intended purpose (dimmable lamps), then it’s a great product. Otherwise you might consider using a different on/off switch. I like to the use the Lutron Outdoor Smart Plug for on/off devices. It’s a little bulky for indoor use, but it works.

An Awesome addtion to my Cresta Setup

Ok so this is a HANDY little device. So handy, in fact, I’ve bought two!
I’ve used these to add some modern era sophistication to some 1930’s art-deco lamps.
As always, they function flawlessly with Alexa.
If you have a lamp that isn’t equipped with a smart bulb but does have a dimmable bulb highly recommend this.
    A Note for New Users:
You can manually use the buttons to dim or pair a pico remote. If you want Alexa or Google Integration you must have the Cresta Hub!
