Can neurio report which electrical device or appliance is consuming the most electricity?

Some appliances such as your microwave, kettle, and toaster can also be trained. If you’re into new tech then upgrading to the Intelligent Home Monitor (which includes the appliance detection feature) is for you!The upgrade fee is $70 USD (sent via PayPal invoice). Only product I have seen so far that has issues with appliances under 400 watts and the advertising for Neurio is a little misleading. I am thinking of having my solar installer take it back and replace with something else. I saw an ad for Sense and think this maybe a suitable replacement but I haven't researched to any great length yet.

Does it have a web server on it so i can look at it from a web browser instead of just ios/android?

Yes, it does. You can access your account from any web browser at my.neur.io

Does this work with IFTTT or make syslogs available?

http://neur.io/developers/'...we plan to support services like SmartThings and IFTTT, so you can integrate Neurio with other connected devices.'As far as the syslog availability, I am not sure.

Tricky installation, but great once you get it working.

We had solar panels and air conditioning installed in April, but our electricity bills had not changed at all. We purchased this product to check on our consumption, and we bought the solar expansion kit to double check our generation. By way of background, we have an older home which has suffered multiple remodels of varying quality. The electrical system is a little complicated, with a master panel and 2 sub panels, and the main utility supply attaches to the master panel via a shielded bus.
We are not electricians, so we asked our professional electrician to install the devices. We gave him the links to the Neurio web site and asked him to watch the videos to save time on installation. The installation took a total of 3 visits and about 2 hours of his time. We also needed to contact Neurio support two or three times. They are very helpful, but do not have a phone number, so each question took about 2 or 3 days to answer. The solar expansion didn’t work at first, because the electrician forgot to connect the blue wire, as he watched the wrong video instructions. It also took a lot of time to work out where to put the consumption current transformers, taking into account the supplies to the sub panel and the bus connection of the incoming supply. However, we eventually got it worked out and now the system works very well.
    Pros
    1. Great system with nice graphics, and customizable to get an idea of consumption costs and savings from solar generation.
    2. Fascinating to be able to see how much power is drawn by various appliances. Very helpful to know whether the air conditioning is pulling more power than we are generating, so that we can adjust the thermostat and try to use it more efficiently.
    3. Great way to check on whether your utility bill is correct. We were able to prove that we were not getting credit for our solar generation, and finally the electric company has agreed to credit us for the missing months.
    Cons
    1. The videos are a little misleading and skip over some steps, making the actual installation harder.
    2. The 15 minute installation time estimate by Neurio is wildly overoptimistic, even for a professional electrician, unless you have done multiple installations and your panel is simple.
    3. Our electrician told us that we have a single phase electric supply – apparently most residential systems are single phase. However, when you have solar, Neurio needs to set up their end to read your system as two phase. It doesn’t look like you can do this yourself – you have to contact Neurio support. The device won’t work properly if you don’t do this.
    4. You have to contact support via a form on the web site. The form doesn’t always submit your query properly. If you don’t get a confirmation e-mail right away, the message didn’t get sent. I would suggest writing your query in Word or Notepad first, and keep a copy in case this happens to you, so that you can easily resend it without retyping everything.
    5. Support is a little slow and somewhat ‘geeky’ in that the replies can be very technical and difficult for a lay person to follow.
Overall the product deserves 5 stars. It does exactly what it was designed for, and it does it very well. The user interface is intuitive and clear in its layout. If you can get past the installation, I am sure you will be as happy as we are with our Neurio. I can’t wait to get the Intelligent software upgrade, as I am finding that ‘knowledge is power’ has a new meaning with Neurio! 🙂

    Better than pretty cool!

to track electricity usage and to keep an eye on billing. The system came in and I installed it as time allowed.
This is not as easy an install as the video suggests. Working with electricity (and the mains going into the main breaker are LIVE) is always a little scary plus – solar (which produces when in’s light outside – up to 7 kW in my case). Remember a good flashlight – it’s dark by most panels.
In any event, I killed the power, checked the power to make sure it was indeed dead, I installed two new breakers (one below the other) in spare slots in my panel, wired the black to the first (phase A), wired the red to the second (phase B), the blue to another phase B (the breakers should go A B A B A.. from top to bottom) and the while to ground per the solar installation instructions. I used the included wire tap/jumper to connect the blue to an existing breaker. If you don’t have spare breakers available, you can use the supplied wire taps and jumpers (you may need to make a jumper out of 12 or 14 gauge insulated wire).
I placed each current transformer (CT) facing AWAY from the breaker towards the power source. Note that the CTs were a pain to remove the holder: I struggled and I’m fairly not small. You may need to help it along – be careful of the wires. Another note: the wire ties used to keep the coil together are a pain – I ended up loosening them and then snipping (carefully) with a pair of cutters. I then organized the wires (voltage cables and each CTs).
I chose a knockout to feed the antenna /cable/mount. I unscrewed the small brass nut and removed the washer from that side of the cble, fit that cable end into the mount, put the washer and nut of the end to hold the antenna mount, screwed on the antenna and then pushed it into the knockout hole. I turned the antenna so it was vertical. I screwed the other end of the cable to the Neurio and mounted the Neurio to the inside of the panel in a free area. I connected the two Mains CTs to 1 & 2, the two solor CTs to 3 & 4 and the wiring connector to the wiring connector slot.
Once everything was neat, I closed the Main Breaker and the Solar Inverter breaker. The Neurio chimed happily. I used my phone to find the Neurio Network, connected to it using […] and filled in the information using the web page that opened. It got stuck on the ‘Saving’ page and so, it failed. So, I opened and closed the Neurio Phase A breaker and redid the http address. I then used the upper right items (Wi-Fi Setup), hit SCAN, selected the network, added the password and hit save. It worked right away. The software on Neurio’s site is smart – it resolved all system issues (such as CTs on the wrong legs) without any input from me. In fact, the sensor page is probably a very dangerous place to hang out!
The entire installation, including buttoning up the panel afterwards, took about an hour. YMMV.
After I responded to the email Neurio sent, I set up my Neurio page (added location and billing info, etc._. I noticed we used a lot of energy. This morning I ran around and turned things off and on. I discovered a couple of things that aren’t really needed that ate power! So, the Neurio will pay for itself in about 5 months or so. Pretty cool. It also tracks solar generation with tight accuracy. I have to run outside and look to see instantaneous generation. Now, I can see solar generation (and total electrical consumption) in real time. That is pretty cool.
So, all in all, pretty cool. Well, better than pretty cool, really. It’s neat!
