Frequently asked question

does the second generation need the august connect for monitoring it away from home?

The docs say that it will work with a 3rd gen Apple TV. That's just not true---it doesn't. It does seem to work with the 4th Gen ATV, but you loose a lot of the reporting, etc, claimed by the Connect. That is, the ATV only tells you if the lock is open or closed. It doesn't tell you who opened it or when they opened it. The Connect isn't a viable solution, either. It doesn't really work at all. It connects poorly, and will actually control the lock remotely maybe 5% of the time so it's not a viable choice if you want to operate the lock remotely. So, practically speaking, given that none of the possible bridge devices actually work well enough to be useful, you cannot monitory away from home.

What happens if the batteries die inside?

It's supposed to tell you in the app when the batteries get low. I just had a set of batteries die with no notification, however. Yet another thing that doesn't work.
