My boilers are located in my basement with no cellphone signals. Is cell service needed in order to operate this device?

Wally needs WiFi signal to the hub. The sensors communicate to the hub by WiFi. The current version (2) is far superior to the original. I use it in a 3 story townhouse with sensors on all 3 floors and the hub located on the middle floor.

Company gone bankrupt? Can’t get anyone for support

    Updated review
I do have to say the set up was extremely easy and the sensors tested out quickly when subjected to very low levels. It took me a while to locate the hub so that you could capture all the sensors . Been running the system for 11 months with great success. Was actually the point I wanted to invest different hardware for another house .
As of today April 18 , There’s no email or phone support from the vendor lines have been disconnected. Tried contacting their numbers to leave messages as well as even calling their former PR director to find out what the heck is going on.
My system still continues to monitor and I get good email updates on sensors as well as the app runs well .
I found a bankruptcy note in New York that looks like it includes Wally LLC Labs, So sadly it looks like a great product has been abandoned with no went to pick it up and support it

I purchased a second for another location and extra sensors and then a third

I had lowered my review from 5 to 2 because they refuse to fix the slide bars and refuse to admit they don’t work without their intervention. However the did finally fix this. I purchased a second set for a second home and then a third for another property. It took a little time the get to know where things are on the website and to test disabling a sensor. There was just a small triangle with an exclamation mark inside it to let you know it could not communicate with a sensor. Once I found where it is displayed, that was OK. I have also purchased extra sensors. Though one sensor is just 25 feet away, it is in a different building and still works most of the time. When you set it up with your zip code, it may give you the reported outside temperature for you area. This is helpful when traveling. I replaced the batteries that come with it with lithium batteries just to know they will continue to work. I have had some batteries in for over one year and they still work in the sensors. If your internet connection does not have an UPS, the battery backup on the hub may not be of much help. So both my Wally hub and internet connection are on a UPS that will last for over one hour. I use the temperature and the door (open/close) features. I would recommend this product. I also purchased a pack of extra sensors.

Overall great and dependable, fast alerts - could be a little 'prettier'

I did not want to write a review until I had given this a try and some time. I purchased the starter kit (base unit and one sensor) in April 2017, along with another sensor. This is a great system. Easy to set up, useful app which is intuitive. Over time I’ve purchased a total of four additional sensors as I’ve gained confidence in the system, and placed them strategically around the house. The alerts are great. I ‘wet’ tested them on my own, and to show visitors, and each time both my wife and I immediately got phone calls and texts, and the alarm on the base unit went off, all in a matter of seconds. We have a long house, and even the sensor furthest away from the base (about 75 ft) stays connected. Every now and then, we get an alert that one or more of the sensors has disconnected, but it resolves itself in awhile. I think this is a function of our wireless connection which tends to get reealllllly sllllllooooow or cut out from time to time, not a Wally issue. My only qualm (great word) is that the alarm on the base unit could stand to be louder. It’s like a quiet version of the Star Trek ‘red alert’ sound, a bit feeble, and very hard to hear at the other end of the house. As we nearly always have our phones close by, that’s not too much of an issue. As for the sensors, the oldest are eight months old and the batteries are still fine. That’s a big plus as I looked at reviews of competing products where the same could not be said. One small criticism is that the design is pretty basic and ‘meh’. The base unit is a plain black box which I’m sure they could shrink a bit – looks a little dated. There is a competing system that has nice drop-shaped sensors, which would be an improvement, though the sensors for this system are pleasingly small. Nice job on this product guys and gals!

Remote sensor for Nest - It actually does what I want it to do

I recently moved to an apartment. I installed a Nest thermostat, but unfortunately the only placement for the TV was right in front of it. The thermostat temperature was affected to the point that the only way to stay comfortable was to continuously adjust the temperature manually through the Nest app. Ever since, I’ve been looking for a device that will act as a remote sensor and that will control the Nest to set the temperature to keep the sensor temperature in range and not the Nest thermostat itself.
I read up on the Wally and it seemed to do just that. I ordered it and set it up. The set up is very easy. Just follow the instructions, download the app, etc. Out of the box it will not do what I wanted it to do. It relied strictly on IFTTT rules which caused the Wally to set the temp on the Nest high or low if certain thresholds were reached. I did not want that. Like I said above, I wanted the Wally to control the Nest.
I contacted support at Wally and told them what I was trying to do. They got back to me immediately and told me that they had a new version of the Wally Dashboard in Beta testing and that I could participate in their beta program. I jumped at the chance. They set my account up appropriate and logged back into the Dashboard. I set up a schedule on the Wally with some desired temperature targets for the remote sensor. The Wally has been adjusting the Nest temperature appropriately to keep the sensor within target. Please note that you have to do a couple of very important things for this to work on your Nest. You have to shut off all Auto Away settings. You also have to shut off all learning behavior on the Nest. That way it gives the Wally go into full Auto mode and handle things from there.
You can still set the temp manually on the Nest if needed. You just need to remember that the Wally won’t pick things back up until the next ‘scene’ is reached. Also, you can still use some of the cool IFTTT features if needed. For example, if the Wally sensor reached a certain temperature or humidity threshold, then turn on the fan on your HVAC system for a few minutes to circulate the air. It’s very cool!
So far it’s the best solution I have found to my specific problem. At least until Nest actually listens to its customers and does what Ecobee did and actually create a remote sensor that plays with their thermostat without an intermediary device…such as the Wally.
