1. I have 4 kids so would they each have a code on their phone to get in?

Sort-of- depending on what you mean by 'have a code'. Also, you could see in the logs which kid opened the lock and when. But the kids themselves wouldn't have to remember any codes, they would just have to remember to carry their phones. Unless you added the accessory keypad device- then they COULD have a unique keycode to punch in for access in case they forgot their phones. I hope that helps. PS- you should consult a lawyer before abandoning one of your children, as there may be legal ramifications.

What if a stranger yells throught the door for Alexa to unlock it?

Contrary to the other commentor, some assistants can unlock via voice such as Apple's Homekit. However, HomePod currently won't, and if using a phone requires that phone to be unlocked. However, HomePod currently won't, and if using a phone requires that phone to be unlocked. So yes, if your phone was face up near the door, and there was an open window or something and the phone was still unlocked, theoretically a person could yell to unlock. But realistically, since phone auto lock shouldn't be an issue, and wouldn't be able to yell through and outside door, so would require an open window, or very thing glass and the mic super close to the door.

how is this different from the second generation?

There area few things. This lock has Z-Wave (for home automation), it can be connected to the new camera/doorbell, you can use the August connect as well as the keypad with this lock. Beyond that, August has implemented Doorsense, which allows the lock to know when it's near the door frame, and also lock the door.

Does it support home kit??

A better answer is 'sort of'. The lock provides full HomeKit support IF your hub (iPad, Apple TV, HomePod) is very close to the lock itself because the lock will only communicate with the hub through BLE Bluetooth. The effective range is around 10 feet, and this is only if the connection is line-of-sight. If your hub… see more A better answer is 'sort of'. The effective range is around 10 feet, and this is only if the connection is line-of-sight. If your hub is further away, full HomeKit support (control the lock from places further away than 10 feet) is not available period. You can purchase August Connect and this will give you full Wi-Fi control of the lock from anywhere but only by using the August App. The Home App will still show 'No Response' unless your iPhone/iPad is near the lock. A careful reading of both the August Connect product description and the August Smart Lock Pro will confirm the foregoing, although not as explicitly. Also be aware that the August Connect has the same 10' line-of-sight range for its connection to the lock, so you will need an outlet or extension cord that runs very close to the door.
