Frequently asked question

Will this work with WiFi 6?

Works only with 2.4 network not 5G

Is the tactile switch on top to control device manually, if WiFi is disconnected?

Yes, it functions as a manual on/off switch.

Can I use these downstream from a dimmer switch? I suppose the better question would be how low of voltage will continue to operate at?

The device requires 90 volts to operate. However, most modern dimmers don't actually reduce voltage, they operate by turning the power on and off 120 times per second at different points in the AC voltage sine wave, thereby reducing power output. I'm not sure how this would effect the operation of the smart switch, but… see more The device requires 90 volts to operate. Will theses work with wink hub

No hub is necessary. Direct wifi xonnect.

Wifi Power switch and timer that has screw terminals.

Great to use in project boxes or any thing where the usual wall switch plug is not desired.

This unit works great! Mmm, usually...

At first I was hesitant of these because I was used to using the plug in modules that were Alexa based (VeSync, etc.) and that we’re plugged into outlets. Boy was I wrong, I love these more now.
Once you add the app to your Alexa, “eWeLink“, this unit rocks. I have all my wiring in the house hooked up in my attic per these modules. You can also share permissions for particular switches if two of you use different amazon accounts and different Alexa’s. Which, really helps as I talked her into buying most of the dots my children use… 🙂
At first, I was frustrating hooking these units up to the wifi, because directions changed for different versions, but now it is pretty simple as they made a simple hold down variable. Also making that tiny screw a Phillips head, WOW, the frustration saved in the attic with only one screwdriver needed! Thanks!!! For the hardware update!!!
I currently have 6 units in my attic controlling various light switches around my house, both of and newer versions, and just ordered three more for other rooms. Best option I would recommend is to change your power on state to “on”, so that it works with the power switch when wifi is acting wonky… You’ll always have light via the switch.
Second suggestion for the company, make the Shell have more ruggedness vs the current casing, as it needs to be a little thicker to make it more rugged, as it feels cheap… Had to waste one unit because I was trying to secure it to the board, the mounting slipped off the motherboard before I secured it properly, and it took out the “long” program button. This was hassle, which you think the component would be secured better? Nope, with the component being surface mounted, …… if you know solid state components I’d usually thin, doesn’t help anything grip into the motherboard.
Btw, I’m an engineer, so I’ve worked with plenty of hardware, also if it’s over your head, just remember I like this unit a lot. It’s fairly easy to use and you can even put this o. The cord of your lamp and it will work to turn it off and on, no need to go into the attic for that.
Third info you need to know, software needs updating!! Having this thing on a schedule is a pain, but this company is updating its software on a semi regular basis, and should change in the future with software updates.
Fourth, this one may be a glitch? Turned off all my lights in the house with the “house off” verbal command, and we had units that aren’t hooked up to “house” turn off. This might be the biggest bug yet, don’t know how this happened, but it did, as my daughters went to their bathroom which is NOT hooked up to the house group, and their lights were off via the hand switch.
I went and reconnected them with a verbal command and figured they somehow turned off maybe by hearing me incorrectly? with the “bathrooms” command for off, instead of house off command??? Most likely the cause but I’ll look into it.
Besides that, having the app and being able to turn off everything remotely (outside of house and driving around) via the Amazon app or eWeLink app is nice.
They Just need to work on that timer function or away function more to be concise and more user friendly, instead of an 80’s video game of “hope you guess it” functionality.

Works, but I like dimmable lights

I originally got these to save money. ~8$ each instead of 15 for each Phillips Hue bulb. This is a relay. It can turn a light or anything on or off… that’s it. I have a dozen of these around the house and they work well, except I’ve realized that for lights, dimmability is worth the extra cost.

Inexpensive and Works Like a Charm

I bought the three pack because I read some reviewers had issues with some of the switches, but the first one I installed worked perfectly well…so far. I’m using it to turn the ring floodlight off on my backyard when I’m at home during the day. I share the ring camera with other members of the family and the notifications can become somewhat annoying, especially when I’m doing yard work. It also allow for some privacy. I could’ve installed a manual on/off switch, but opted for this WIFI switch because I can turn it back on from anywhere at anytime, plus i didn’t want to run wires for a manual switch. As you can see in the pictures, I just ran a short wire inside a conduit and placed the switch inside an electrical box. The switch was a little too long though to fix inside the box and had to modified its cover, which voids the warranty, but I figured it was working and for the price it was worth the risk. Anyway, it works extremely well and for the price, you can’t go wrong. I took one star off because it took some effort to get it paired with my router.
10/13/2019: Wanted to update this review because I encountered issues registering the other two remote controls. No matter how close or far I got to the router, I could not get either remote to register until I decided to use another older/WIFI only connected cell phone. Not sure it’s because it’s an older phone, but I think it had to do with the cellular network. So, if you are experiencing issues registering one of these remotes, may I suggest turning the cellular service on your phone to OFF.
