Frequently asked question

Does this item have Z-wave?

No. No need. Connects directly to wifi

Do you need the module? Seems to work ok with just WiFi connection.

Is it compatible with nest?

Yes, but you must use the August App... All you need comes in the package except downloading the app from your I/Google store. You also need to download the Yale app for installation instructions.. The instructions in the box are a little clunky..

Does this work with xfinity home and zigbee? does it have a red network module ayr202-zb-ha?

Do not purchase. Network module did not work at all. And I have been doing networking for near 30 years...

    Love the convenience

After installing three Yale locks in my vacation rental I decided to change out the ones in my primary residence. My front door needed all new hardware in addition to the electronic lock so that no key is needed and I found this to be the most economical version. Having already installed three of the Yale locks I knew what to expect so this was a relatively simple install. The only issue I had was the replacement handle was longer than the one I was replacing so I had to drill new holes in the door, fill the old ones, and repaint the whole door (the door needing painting anyway). Set up codes for people who need them on the August app and now we don’t have to worry about keys. Found it relatively easy to connect to my Internet and get set up in the August app. Highly recommend.

Great lock, some features can be flaky

We’ve been using this lock for a few months now and have been enjoying it a lot. Not having to worry about keys is great, and the lock is unpickable because it doesn’t accept a key at all. It’s easy to generate codes for guests or family. There are a few rough points, though:
    – Even the lowest volume setting is pretty loud.
    – If you mute the lock, there isn’t much feedback for typing in the code, so it can be difficult for people unfamiliar with the lock to use it while it’s muted.
    – If you mute the lock, it also mutes the ‘failed to lock’ alert sound, when the deadbolt fails to extend.
    – You can’t add a Smart Alert for failing to lock. So leaving the sound on is literally the only way you know the lock failed to lock.
    – Auto-unlock is flaky. (Although, I doubt any manufacturer gets this right.)
    – The touch area for the ‘Yale’ logo button is a little weird, or maybe the sensitivity isn’t great? Either way, touching the ‘Yale’ logo doesn’t always seem to work.
    – It would be nice to disable locking the deadbolt while the door is open (if you’ve installed the door sensor), but this isn’t an option. Sometimes we accidentally brush against the lock when the door is open and then we have to ‘unlock’ it to shut the door.
    – If you add a code for a person, sometimes it fails to text it to them. To be honest, I’d rather it just used the Android ‘share’ menu to send the code instead, that way I could use delivery mechanisms other than text and I’d be more confident that they actually received the code.
All of this said, this is a great lock and much better than carrying around keys.

Great ... Once you get it set up

Really poor instructions ( Actually – Not many instructions at all ) – Lots of integrations between the lock, the August Module and the Wi-Fi bridge. Had to deal with 3 different setups and no real ‘Big picture’ to tell you what order to do them in ( And it makes a difference ). Actual installation of the lock in the door was pretty straight forward but the rest was a serious pain. I really like it when I finally figured it out after a bunch of google searches and you tube videos

    Complicated To install

Tried installing this in a door with the bore slight off. You will have to make the hole larger but it finally went on.

    Good for 5 months

This was installed on a new door for our home. We liked the app and options for access codes and opening remotely. It was using a set of 4 AA batteries every month until we turned off the auto locking option. But the mechanism has failed and now it won’t open or close the the bolt. Even with the door open to remove all friction, it can’t complete an action.
