Frequently asked question

Can I have multiple locks use the same physical key? Eg, I have 3 doors and want the version with a physical key but want doors to use the same key

Considering since you set the door key yourself I don’t see why not.

I live in a multi-apt. Can this lock be rekeyed to existing keys or will physical keys need to be cut for those that require them instead of a code?

No, I don’t think the lock can be rekeyed but I leave one key in the management office and we have the other key. Never use it though just use the code. You might ask Yale if they could provide more keys

Is it possible to use on an outdoor/backyard gate? i'm in southern ca so there isn't much rain. i'm looking for a lock that i can use for an airbnb.

Buy Yale with nest connect, they are great.... stay away from August connect, they suck

How many digits is the access code?

Your access codes must be 4 to 8 digits long.

    No issues

I waited a few months before writing a review to test it out fully. It had been about 6 months and I haven’t had any issues(other than maybe having to recalibrate the lock once in the app). We love it as we can make sure the door is shut and locked while away, get alerts when it is unlocked, provide temporary or permanent codes to people, etc. Has all the functions I could ask for and would definitely recommend this lock.

Garbage Right Out of the Box

First problem was how easily the screws provided will strip when drilling into the door frame. I should have stopped right there, box it back up and return it but no, I am too determined to get it too work.
Next is that the batteries will not stay mounted. Put them in and they fall out wich causes the ‘module’ to go into a fit and needs to be reset.
I give up and leave for summer vacation.
i come back and try to install with no luck. So, I swallow my pride and call tech-support. They tell me there is a problem with the ‘module’ and I should return it.
Problem now is I am outside the 90-day window for returns.
Highly, highly recommend you do not purchase.

    Wifi Module Stopped Working

The WiFi module Bluetooth connection stopped working in the first 24 hours. It’s got line of site, no obstructions, about 6 feet away from my door. Reset the module and my lock and it worked a bit longer but stopped again. Looks good and healthy in the settings. Really annoyed. The lock itself works fine with no Internet connection since the configuration is saved locally. But remote access is a key feature I was looking for. Returning this lock and trying something else.

Most confusing broken install I've ever seen.

I tried installing this for my parents, and its a freaking mess. The instructions are jumbled mix between different hardware. For example, I still don’t know what the Yale wireless plugs are even for. Setting a master lock based on the instructions doesn’t work, even when i did get it to work it was very unclear how to sync the now partially working lock with ring. It expects me to repeat the steps of going through the gear icon and hitting 7, a process that results in a random series of beeping. Now somehow I got it to where it doesn’t unlock, wont take a master key, and is giving a network module error in the app. I’m a literal computer guy that’s been coding, and running linux via command line for years. If i cant figure this mess of a product out there is a problem. I wouldn’t doubt the positive reviews are either bots, or people that didn’t even use the networking capabilities or lack thereof. I really don’t appreciate having to return a product after already having installed the damn thing.

Be weary of purchasing used from Amazon

While this is one of the best wifi locks available when it works, I am giving this two stars because of my unsatisfactory experience with Amazon.
I purchased this used, listed in good condition, for what I thought was a very good price. Upon receiving the lock I observed that its battery compartment was melted such that it was not possible to put batteries in it to power or test it. I called Amazon and explained this. They gave me the option to either return it or to receive a $60 refund to put towards having it fixed locally. I explained that because it was not possible to power on, I was not sure if it was otherwise functional and asked if it would be possible to receive a larger discount if it turned out to need other repairs. I was assured that I would ‘be taken care of at that point’ or something to that effect. So far, so good.
At this point I made the mistake of accepting the refund and having my local locksmith repair the lock’s battery compartment for $65. At this point we powered the lock on and discovered that the bolt would not actuate. The locksmith said he could fix the lock the following week, so I agreed to that. I called Amazon and explained what had happened. After the agent put me on hold for a couple minutes to speak with their manager, they informed me that they would not grant any additional refund to cover the cost of the second repair, but that I could return the lock for a refund of $60 less than the purchase price, meaning I would have to eat the entire cost of the repair.
I went ahead with getting the lock fixed locally. It ended up costing $76 for the second repair.
All in all I spent a little more money on a used lock than I would have had I purchased it new, and a whole lot more time. The lock is still working well today, months later, so I’m thankful for that. I just suggest sticking with other sites for used items, as this was only one of a few occasions in the past year I’ve received used items from Amazon that should have never passed inspection due to being defective, the wrong item, or even a box filled with trash in one instance.
Your used item quality control is slipping, Amazon! You can do better!
