Frequently asked question

Does this come with the module and the needed hub/bridge? description says it does but many answers say it does not. i need remote access. have wifi.

Yes this comes with the module and the hub bridge. As long as you buy the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version (Connected by August) model number is YRD216-CBA. Hope that helps!

Does the “connected by August” actually support zwave as well and just include its own hub?

The Connected by August version (YRD216-CBA) does not support Z-Wave. It's Bluetooth, WiFi, Alexa, Google Assistant and HomeKit compatible.

What exactly is the August connect supposed to do? Confused.

The Connect Wi-Fi Bridge allows you to control your smart lock when you're away from home via the Yale Access mobile app. It also lets you control your lock using voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant.

I have an airbnb in a different state. i added a couple codes while i was there setting up lock. now i am home and it won’t let me add more codes?

I only had to be physically at the lock to setup the master code but could setup codes in the app whenever and where ever. Never really tried setting up other people's codes at the lock. Are you not able to add codes in the app either?

No instructions whatsoever for linking lock module to wifi/bluetooth system. No rovided qcode to read (although app says to use one provided). App says ‘if cant read qcode, use serial number located in battery cover. WRONG!!! After getting error codes (over and over using what’s listed in the cover) I decided to check actual module and that’s where the actual serial number is! I’m still researching videos on you tube since no instructions came with it. Further, the number provided for tech assistance is useless considering ‘it doesn’t connect you to anyone’! So based on how I feel about all of that, I will be boxing this foolishness up and sending it back on general ‘not respecting my business enough to send me all the information that I need to actually use my purchase’!!!!

Lock would not Register / Connect to internet

The lock would not register/connect to the internet. I worked with the Yale support team for over an hour. After an hour the Yale support rep said I should return it as it was most likely a defect lock. I bought the lock for a house we own in Canada which we go to 4 or 5 times a year. Since I am no longer at the house in Canada I simply returned it for a refund. Overall, not a good experience and a hard lesson learned.

    Absolute Garbage, DO NOT BUY

My fiancé and I recently purchased a short term rental property. This lock is recommended by some of the list sites due to its integration features. The installation was nice and simple, and that’s where the positives for this piece of trash end. So far this thing has been nothing but a headache and an absolute waste of money. We don’t live in the same area as our short term rental, and every time the power goes out or the internet goes down the lock loses sync with the WiFi bridge and we can no longer add or remove codes or even lock/unlock remotely. So every time that happens we have to pay someone to go reconfigure the stupid thing for us. The latest fun thing has been that codes we give our guests just randomly stop working in the middle of the day. So we now have people randomly getting locked out of the house in the middle of the day. Stay away from this thing, it is a piece of garbage. You’ll thank me later.

    Good locks for remote control.

I have a total of 5 of these locks now, all replacing Kwikset electronic locks. These are great! August works well, if a little cumbersome. Not clear how to add just a code for someone without emailing it to them… Kwikset has fatal flaw with battery life… i just chunked the last one after a battery life of a month on a little used door.
Bought two of these to help manage a remote location. Directions for install are straightforward…if you have ever put a lock in, no problem. Setting your master code and syncing may take some time… directions in package and on website are different, and take some retrys. Works well with August for remote management… August app is rudimentary, but works.

    Not Reliable

Works fine as a keypad lock, but the remote interface with my phone is unreliable. We have an Android and an IPhone in the house and you can’t count on either one to connect. Very frustrating to have spent this much money on this lock. Would not recommend.

    Easy to use

I had a handyman install this, and it took about 1/2 an hour. Had to call the phone support to get it to connect to the app, but then it was all good. Easy to program and my kids each have their own code. Very worth the price!
