Most cameras do not allow one to adjust the time for recording for motion detection, what is the motion detection recording time?

This camera's wireless effective range is less than 25 feet

UPDATE: After almost 2 years of use the camera is still working but recently I had new problem and found a solution. The problem was that the camera lost it’s connection to the netvue server and went offline and bricked itself. This has happened a few times before and the solution WAS pretty easy, just add it back like it’s a new camera. But the camera is 2.4Ghz only and all modern phones and routers are 5Ghz, and the camera requires a 2.4Ghz phone to program it. 5Ghz devices are backwards-compatible with 2.4 but most phones don’t have a ‘only connect at 2.4Ghz’ option (neither my iPhone or android phone does). Possible solutions:
    1) Find an older 2.4Ghz only phone, connect it to wifi, and program camera: NOPE. The Netvue App is incompatible with older 2.4Ghz only phones! UNREAL! Their camera runs a frequency requiring an APP that is incompatible with phones that only run that frequency!!!!
    2) Turn off phone wifi and go to the extreme end range of distance to router (barely 1 bar), and turn it back on. The phone won’t be able to connect to the shorter-range 5Ghz and will connect to router at backwards compatible 2.4Ghz. Problem is that you’d be running a lot of trips back and forth to the camera, leaving your phone behind each time (because if it gets too close to router it will switch to 5Ghz) to get device ID number off of camera (can’t scan the QR code from that far away), listen for doorbell sounds etc. It’s possible but a big PITA and the phone might lose connection to router causing you start all over.
    3) Download an app that forces your phone to ONLY connect to 2.4Ghz wifi. Problem here is that the few apps that do this don’t work on every phone. Fortunately I did find a free app that does work on one of my phones. If you can’t, you’ll have to go with option #2. Good luck!
    END UPDATE. Previous review:
I almost sent this camera back because the range is nearly too short to work with. When I was dealing with their tech support and they asked me how far the camera was from the router and I replied ‘about 25 feet’ they said that was way too far and suggested I use a range extender or move the camera closer to the router. But seriously, if I wanted a camera that close to the router, why wouldn’t I just use an ethernet cable? I have cheaper Zmodo wireless cameras that work from 4 times the distance of this Netvue. Both brands are 2.4 Ghz.
One of the things that frustrated the troubleshooting of the range issue is that the camera works fine and reports a ‘fair’ wifi signal… for awhile. But it eventually loses the connection it doesn’t try to reestablish it even if you unplug and plug it back in, it requires a multi-step, several minute manual process involving the phone app and a button on the camera to get it working again. Another tech support agent explained that’s just the way the camera works without an ‘excellent’ signal and reiterated it’s short functional distance.
So why didn’t I send it back? Great video and audio quality, good recording on user supplied SD card, etc. I wound up installing a mesh network I was planning to put in eventually anyway and have one of the nodes about 5 feet away from the camera. That is the only way I can get it to work.
This would be a great product if it worked well more than a few feet away from the wifi source. As is, it’s just okay. If you need more distance without upgrading your wifi network, try something else.

Solid hardware bundled with disappointing software

So, the camera hardware itself is well made and very solid. But the problem is in the software and firmware.
You are forced — yes forced — to use Netvues app to view this camera. I was completely unable to access the camera using any other software, even with the correct IP settings. It appears locked to only their app.
That’s a problem. Even after successful setup, the app stupidly drops the feed if it doesn’t like your internet connection. But this is supposed to work on your local WiFi network — it shouldn’t be relying on internet for viewing the feed on the local WLAN at all.
This is a huge problem if you are in an area with less than perfect internet — places like a cabin or outbuilding where you’d want security cameras. And even if you try to view it over perfectly fast local WiFi, the app refuses to let you view your camera if it doesn’t like your internet speed. It has refused to connect, claiming poor internet even while a speed test shows it working just fine. (Again, external internet speed shouldn’t even be a concern on a local WiFi camera.)
The Netvue app also forces you to look at ads for their products while using the app to (badly) view a camera you paid them for.
If there was a way to access the camera using alternative software it would be one thing, but being locked into this mediocre experience is very disappointing.
