This could be a failsafe, or a big problem, depending upon your application.
Will this work on a 5Ghz home network?
Sadly, it only works on traditional 2.4 Ghz networks.
Can this be hard-wired (no wifi) so that it can be opened and closed with a wall switch?
As far as I know it cannot. At our location there are winter freezing temperatures. We use a ' Water Cop' devise to turn off the water but that device does not allow the water to drain. On this remodel job that system would not have drained the hot water pipes so an additional drain valve was needed. Normally not a problem but the home owner wanted the convenience of electrical operation and the ability to turn off the water from a distant location. This is my first install of the Xenon WiFi. The home owner is OK with these and the use of WiFi. I would prefer a manual or electrical switch to accomplish the same. Power outages could complicate the operation of a simple 'normal open' or 'normal close' solenoid valve.

More complicated than it looks, worthwhile
These are a little more advanced than basic home automation switches, but certainly doable and worth your time. The motor has a good amount of torque to it.

This device was not easy to install and their instructions were so tiny and hard to understand. Trying to link the device with our phone, you would need an experienced computer person and the Jinvoo site is a total confusion. Would not order this again!
