Is it compatible with SimpliSafe alarm system?

Gen 6 of this was supported by abode alarms but gen7 doesn’t show up as a door sensor. it only shows up as motion sensor. is there a fix for that?

Unfortunately, this may indicate that Abode Alarm has not added this product as a compatible device. You'll need to contact Abode Alarms to see if they can add this device as a compatible device to their system.

Will this sensor work with the deco m9 plus integrated lo t hub?

The Deco M9 Plus is a purely WiFi hub, this product uses Z-Wave which will not work directly with the hub listed.

Is this compatible with a Ring alarm system?

Hi, Thanks for the question. Aeotec Recessed Door Sensor 7 will not work with Ring alarm system I’m afraid. Functions as described except for poor battery life

Product description says 3+ years battery life but I suspect the included battery is terrible and didn’t get anywhere near that life.
Purchased two of these 21 months ago and they mostly sat in their box on my desk. One was installed with HomeAssistant / ZWave JS about six months ago, One never was put into use. Both batteries today measure 0.06V The in service unit stopped responding two weeks ago but came back to life with a new battery today.
Big hassle to remove and replace battery as others have pointed out.
Otherwise happy with the function. I hope the included batteries were just a terrible quality.

Will work with Smarthings after one critical step

Works great with Smartthings V3 but you need to pair the sensor in a specific way as of 12/14/20. If you follow the instructions in the package or use Steven’s review it will not work correctly and the sensor will show closed when the door is open.
To pair, first remove the lid and take the microchip/battery out of the plastic tube by squeezing the tube and pulling out the chip. Remove the plastic battery tab and then pull the battery completely out. Replace the battery and you will see the red light flash, which will eventually turn off. If there is no red light, twist the battery in place as this may clear any debri that was preventing the battery contact to the chip. Keep the chip out of the tube for now.
Next step is to load the new Smartthings app and then hit the + button on the top right. Hit Device, then Aeotec brand, then Open/Closed Sensor, then Door/Window 7 Sensor, then Start, then Next in the hub/room screen. Hit the button several times until the red light starts flashing and the pairing hits 100%. The next window will ask you to scan a QR Code BUT HIT THE X ON THE TOP RIGHT TO EXIT THIS SCREEN!! Do not scan the QR Code or enter a code or your sensor will NOT work correctly. After hitting the X you will get a Exiting Secure Set-Up Message. Then you will get a warning that you are not using the highest security but ignore this warning by hitting OK and then rename the device and hit Done.
Now the final step is to immediately remove the battery, wait 10 seconds and then replace it. Wait for the red light to turn off. Move the magnet piece over the top of the chip and you should see a successful open/closed indication on Smarthings. If it doesn’t work, take the battery out again, wait 10 sec and then replace it. Eventually it will start to work perfectly and you won’t have to touch it again. Place the chip back in the tube, replace the lid and install in your door/window.
I just installed 8 sensors in most of our doors and windows and all of them work great after following this method. For some reason this sensor only works with the lower Smartthings security, but as an open/closed sensor this was not an issue for me. If Aeotec or Smartthings updates their software and this method no longer works, I will update my review. I hope this helps!

Using in outside gate paired to Ring Alarm

Great for the 3 months it worked. After that, it would not go back online. Look for a better solution…
original review: I bought this sensor to install in my exterior wooded gate to my pool to easily see when someone has entered my backyard. The sensor was easy to pair to the Ring Alarm as a Works with Ring device, just like all my z-wave light switches throughout the house. I knew ahead of time that it would not be able to be included in the arming and triggering of Ring Alarm and only be able to show a record of the sensor tripping. This is true of all Works with Ring devices. However, I can create a routine with Alexa to let me know when the gate was opened though a notification sound on my phone or Alexa device.
I realized when it arrived that it is really for an interior door, so I decided to make sure it was weatherproofed well. I drilled the hole for the sensor in my gate just enough to make it slightly recessed. I then covered it with all-weather duct tape and painted over it with 4 coats to ensure water doesn’t get in. I drilled and installed the magnet opposite it, painted it as well, and now have a working gate sensor. So far it has worked great and I am hopeful it will last a long time before i need to replace the battery. Given it uses z-wave plus, same as the rest of my Ring Alarm door/window sensors and z-wave plus light switches, the mesh feature of z-wave plus should result in less battery drain over time. I’ll wait a few months before I buy a second one for my other gate.
Oh, and since it is connected through the Ring Alarm, I will still get alerts if the power is out (battery backup) or internet is down (cellular backup).
