Frequently asked question

When will this camera firmware be updated to include Chrome without the need for a plugin?

They're probably Never going to fix it. They've had this compatibility issue for the past 7 years I've been using their camera's. I don't need it but it's been a bit annoying when I've wanted it to work in the Chrome browser.

Does motion detection work in the 'tour' mode? I would like for the camera to scan for motion in multiple areas. Can that be possible ?

Yes, however, the motion detection could trigger while the camera is touring. Amcrest Team

Hello will this be able to add on my western digital system as additional ip camera?

We do not recommend for you to use third-party systems with our products as there may be limited compatibility causing some of the features to not work properly. However, it may be possible if the third party NVR is using ONIF or RTSP.

Why is it listed as ipoe when it has a dc power plug on it? lies!

All Poe cameras still have the option of separate dc power. It’s called versatility. I have many Amcrest POE cameras, they are great.

    Nice Camera, poor night vision.

We installed new siding and wanted a clean looking camera do I went with 2 of these Amcrest dome cameras. They are low profile and have a clean look. During the day the cameras perform great, but at night you can only see a few feet in front. I use to own Foscam outdoor cameras and the night vision was great, but not on these one’s. I’m going to have a a flood light installed at the back of my house to maybe fix the issue with the poor IR.

    Robust little IP cam

I’m using this camera to replaced a failed POE-PTZ-IP cam used in a curling facility to broadcast the overhead view of the rings. The video quality is excellent, and it will go to 30 fps for video streaming at 720p or 1080p. I’m using it at 720p to save some LAN bandwidth and lessen video processing for streaming. The audio quality using the internal mic is good for environmental audio and can be configured from 8000-48000 Hz. Nice. The metal mounting bracket is clever and secure, and makes it easy to mount and de-mount the camera to any solid surface. The web UI configuration is comprehensive and easy using Chrome, although a plugin must be installed and then launched every time the camera is accessed. This is a minor annoyance, but otherwise the web UI works well. The IP Config tool works well to locate the camera IP on your LAN on initial setup using DHCP. The AmCrest Surveillance app does much of what the web UI does, with few exceptions…you can only remove all the watermarks in the web UI. Also, the Amcrest Surveillance and IP Config apps do not scale well on 4K UHD displays, resulting in tiny text. They should be OK on HD (2K) displays. A bonus is this cam will work on the older POE 802.3af (15W) switches. Will update this review after a few months of operation.

    Excellent camera for the price

Overall the camera is a great camera, built from high-quality material. This camera is used as a 24/7 live stream, so I haven’t gotten the full experience with the night vision, however the color at night capabilities are good, nothing compared to AXIS cameras, which can be almost 10x the price.
The optical zoom works great and maintains full quality when zooming, and the presets are easy to set up.
My least favorite part about this camera is the interface, the Chrome plugin works but is outdated, it would be nice to be able to use a regular browser like Edge, Firefox, or Chrome. The Amcrest Surveillance Pro software works, but I find it extremely laggy to use, generally missing everything I need to see. This has brought me to port forward the RTSP stream and watch it via VLC while controlling it on the software. This could just be an issue due to my home being located almost 100 miles away from the camera which is also on a DSL connection that barely pushes 1 Mbps upload.
The DVR function works, so in the event that you can’t see anything because it’s so laggy, you can just rewind the footage and view it that way without (generally) any ‘laggyness’ or stuttering.
The audio sucks, get an external mic if you really need one. The location that the camera is streaming at is located at a train station, the horns of the trains obliterate the mic completely defeating the purpose of a mic at all.
The resolution actually surprised me, 2MP may not seem like much, but with the zoom, you can certainly make out the faces of people. One comparison to another camera that I’ve owned is a Reolink RLC-423, which features the most out-of-the-box resolutions that I’ve never heard of myself. The Amcrest Pro HD features true 1920x1080p and a solid 30fps.
All in all, if you’re using it for your home and inside your network, go for it, if it is being used for remote use (besides the phone app) I would suggest looking for something else. And if you don’t need a mic, or your mounting it close to the ground it should work fine.

Decent price for a PTZ camera

This camera is decent for the price, but has some flaws. The mounts aren’t the greatest. It is sometimes hard to get the camera to fit the mount especially if you are hanging them from a ceiling. The night vision is alright, but there are much better Amcrest cameras that have better night vision that are cheaper. The picture quality is 1080p, which is what is described in the description. If you don’t need PTZ, then I would go with a different camera from Amcrest. If you do need PTZ, then this isn’t a terrible camera to get especially for the price compared to other PTZ outdoor cameras.

    Works ok

Updated: for some reason this camera suddenly needed to be reset, working normally after reset. Will update if I have more problems
Stopped working just after 1 year, it seems to have issues with heat. It was not even in direct sun but as soon as it got hot outside it stopped working. I won’t buy another one. Most likely changing brands now as this has happened before.

Easy to setup and control locally

I don’t like using cloud services so it is important to me that Amcrest allows direct local control of all their IP cameras. I was a long time Foscam user but finally got tired of their poor support and limited options for configuration and setup. This device was easy to setup and interface with my Blue Iris application
