Frequently asked question

I'm a senior woman so I'm looking for an easy peasy light/camera to install. Is this hard wired or battery operated?

It is designed to be a flood light fixture, so if you are simply replacing and existing hard wired floodlight, install is relatively easy, although they do recommend a licensed electrician do the install (this is to avoid litigation). If you are not replacing an existing hard wired fixture, you will need 110V run to the area and a box installed. This becomes advanced pretty quickly.

Will the camera record during daylight hours ?

Yes, if configured. Can record video constantly or when it detects motion no matter what time it is.

Anyone know any reason why it quit recording? Only shows me live.

Make sure in settings you have recording on . Have you checked the micro sd card or clear the Micro sd card, it might be full ! Let us know how did it go. Try using another micro se card if you have one or change it to a bigger memory card 128gb

do these come in beige?

No.

    Nice Floodlight by Lorex

Good quality! I like it better than other floodlight cams I own.

    Testing the waters

I bought this floodlight to replace our back porch light. The LED light is bright, camera is clear when light is on and during daylight, and overall is pretty clear with night vision. The app is very user friendly, but notifications can lag and get to be excessive with bugs flying in front of it. Motion sensitivity is at 1, which is all the way down, but microSD will hold over a month’s worth of motion recording. I plan on getting a DVR with Lorex IP cameras, and from my research you can incorporate 2 wireless cameras to record to the DVR. I bought a second camera light for my mom’s driveway. Also have the Lorex doorbell cam. Overall I am happy with this camera, just wish notifications were more prompt. Will sometimes get a notification 2 or 3 hours later when on the home network.

    Nice product bad support

I love my camera. I do not however love Lorex customer service. If you have to contact them for issues, good luck. I had to jump through hoops to get anywhere with support, and still wasn’t given a solution. Returned product snd got another on my own and was able to set it up. Even if I had a lemon of a product tech support was not able to help me, would not accept return, wanted me to trouble shoot 10 different things spent over 3 hours on the phone had to run to the store to buy a voltmeter to test voltage( which wasn’t necessary). Called customer service to complain about my experience and said I wanted someone to contact me and never heard back. The camera works good though, so does the app. If I experience problems in the future I’d rather change item than call and try to get anywhere with support. My suggestion is don’t buy warranty ( because you’ll have to deal with support) if your item breaks after warranty period just buy new.

    Works on eave/soffit mounted locations!!

We have an older house and all 5 of the Spot/Flood lights are mounted on the Soffit under the eave. Almost all new spot/flood lights, especially nicer camera ones are designed to mount on the wall or vertical surface. Many say specifically that they will not work on the Soffit. These didn’t specifically say that so I thought I’d buy 1 to try. It worked, so we changed them all over and now have 360° camera views around the house!
If you look at my pics you can see the process. Here is what I did
    1. Unpackage light
    2. Flip it to see internally mounted power supply, then remove by removing 2 screws. There is enough wire to pull it out and let it dangle to the side.
    3. You will see the mounting points for the 2 lights and the camera. The metal circles with a tab are what holds them in. You can see that when you rotate any of them they only let you go so far. This is so you don’t turn and turn and turn to the point where the wires bind up. When you try to re-orient the camera, it will turn to the needed position fine, but the tabs stop the lights from going to the needed position. So….we need to remove the tabs.
    4. Now because of the way the wires go through the circles, it is impossible to completely remove them without cutting wires. I was able to turn them to the center and use a cutoff wheel to cut them off without disassembly. You do run the risk of damaging the wires or housing. If you feel more comfortable, cutting wires, removing the circles, and re-assembling is an option, so feel free to do so.
    5. How ever you get there, once the tabs are gone for the 2 lights, they can be turned to the proper position to fit under the eave on the soffit. Just don’t rotate more than once, or you can twist and damage the wires.
    6. Carefully re-install the power supply, make sure you do not pinch any of the wires.
Then you are free to install per the instructions. Install is straight forward and easy. Set up through the App is very easy and the cameras are overall great.
The biggest perk for these is that the data is stored on a card and not on a cloud. There is no service to pay for. They will continue to work if your internet goes down.
We purchased the Lorex doorbell and several interior cams for the house and outbuildings as well. Overall great system.
If I were to make a complaint, it would be a very minor one…..the flood lights themselves, while bright, are definitely older LED technology. They don’t have the bright white color or diffused look that the newer style lights have. But the functionality for my needs far outweigh this small detail.

Great security light! No subscription required like Ring.

First thing, I love Lorex does not trick you into a subscription like Ring does. I find the Ring to be very deceptive and should be more forthcoming that even though you bought their equipment it won’t work unless you buy a yearly subscription.
Lorex offers a free app and that’s how it should be. From the app you can use this floodlight like a ring doorbell. You can turn it on/off, talk through the light using the app, etc. Super handy.
This floodlight is heavy duty. It isn’t made of cheap plastic but rather, surprisingly, strong metal. I bought this to light monitor my second acre on a garage. Its 15’ up and very bright.
Installation was a breeze and comes with everything you need. Of note, get this synced to your Lorex app before going up the ladder. I got it linked first then moved it into position. I didn’t want to scan the QR code for the app when I’m on a ladder.
It has a siren, but it’s not loud. Maybe it’s because it’s so high up? I don’t use the siren and that’s a great thing too. You can customize this light to fit your needs. I have it running 24/7 and it only lights up from Dusk to Dawn.
I highly recommend. Doing things over I should’ve bought their doorbell. Instead I was duped into the Ring. Hope this helps.
