Device detailed description

The YI Dome Camera U Pro was made with privacy in mind. Simply flip the lid of the camera to turn on “Sleep Mode” whenever you want to disable the camera’s ability to record and set a PIN Code in the YI Home APP for an extra layer of protection. Once ‘Sleep Mode’ is enabled, the camera lens will automatically rotate downwards inside of the case to protect your privacy. To increase the camera’s security, there’s an option to protect your feed with PIN protection. When enabled, this option asks you to enter a four-digits PIN code before you could log onto the camera’s video stream. It provides peace of mind that unwanted viewers can’t hack into the feed.

Frequently asked question

Is there a fee?

Yes, if you want to sign up for their cloud backup. No, if you buy a big SD card and put it in the slot that's about an inch or two below the camera's 'eye'. (put the camera's head up so that it's looking up as high as it goes, and then you'll see the slot).

Can i view live feed if i am not connected to wifi? For example if i am away and do not have access to wifi just cellular d

Yes, you can. As long as the camera is connected to the WiFi, you can view live feed anywhere on your phone or tablet using WiFi or cellular.

Will this recognize a face with its Face recognition and let you know the person or let you know it’s an unrecognized face On the notification?

No. The newer cameras have a wide angle lens that makes everything distorted.

Will the power supplies from the previous Yi 1080p dome cameras work on these? Id rather not have to snake the cables in the walls twice.

it should be the same mini usb port, I have multiple cameras and they all take the same kind of power plug.

Good camera - initial setup can be a bit tricky, however.

So far, the camera is working well and is a nice upgrade to the previous 1080p PTZ models.
The resolution upgrade from 1080p to 1440p is noticeable and covers a wider view while providing a clearer image (going from 1920×1080 to 2560×1440).
The audio also seems to have improved as there is less distortion when compared to the audio of the 1080p PTZ models.
Connectivity is limited to the 2.4Ghz band, as is the case with most cameras at this price point, but is still more than enough for a 2K stream.
The only downside I’ve run into so far, and this is kind of a big one (initially, at least), is that of the setup/QR code scanning. I returned the one I initially purchased as I could not get the camera to scan the QR code regardless of what I tried.
If you run into the same issue where the camera will not scan the QR code and is stuck in the ‘Waiting to connect’ mode, simply perform the following steps:
    1. Rotate your phone horizontally/90 degrees, then face it up toward your ceiling (as you can see in the image I’ve uploaded.
    2. With your phone still facing up toward your ceiling, face the camera down toward the floor, aimed at the horizontal QR code (as you can see in the image I’ve uploaded).
This worked for me on the second try, as I received an audio prompt telling me that the QR code was invalid.
If you hear, ‘Invalid QR code,’ simply rotate your phone in the other direction (horizontal as well), and scan it again.
I was ready to return this camera for the last time, but I’m glad I was able to get it to connect, as it is working well so far. Time will tell if this lasts as long as the 1080p PTZ models, but so far it’s a nice upgrade. It loses one star for the extra effort required for setup, but I would still recommend it, especially for $39.
I hope this helped you in some way.
    ***Previous 1-star review***
First, let me preface this review by stating that I’m a technology professional, having deployed much more complex camera systems with ease.
That said, I have several Yi cams in my network, alongside EZVIZ, Dahua and Unifi cameras. I like the Yi cams because they don’t time out when viewing live streams (great for use as baby monitors), which others like Hikvision’s EZVIZ do not do unless you stream locally via RTSP.
When I saw this Yi 2K camera I thought it would be a nice upgrade to my Yi 1080 dome/PTZ camera which I’ve had for a few years.
The camera arrived, plugged it in and could not get past the ‘Waiting to connect’ prompt from the camera. It will not scan the QR code regardless of what I try, different angles, different distances, different lighting, different phones (iOS as well as Android) nothing worked.
I figured maybe updating the firmware offline via microSD card would work – nope! Their website doesn’t even list the camera under their available cameras in their firmware section. What an absolute waste of time this was. I would not recommend this model from Yi, considering the fact that something as simple as pairing/setting up the camera could be as screwed up as this. I will attempt one more time in case I received a dud.

if your internet is 5G just move away from the modem (putting the camera in another room with closed doors) and the internet automatically switches to 2.4G….If the camera doesn’t read the QR code just use natural light in a window by putting the cell phone lying down and the camera in a vertical position and with little effort you will read it. With such negative comments, I was thinking of returning them, but what I wrote before worked very well for me.

    Great System, won't connect

I love the Yi cameras, but not all of them will connect. I have 6 cameras, and all connected and are functional, but the last two that I purchased (Dome U Camera Pro) would NOT connect to my wifi, even though all the others would. I even tried disconnecting some of the current ones (both other Dome U’s and the older cameras) and resetting them to see if there was a problem with my 2.4G wifi, but they reconnected just fine. To make it worst, it is impossible to find help to address my issue. The firmware site at Yi does not have firmware for this model that I could find. I love the Yi camera systems, I am totally unsatisfied with the support and consistency of function.

    Amazing cam!

This camera like all the other Yi cameras is an ease to set up right out of the box. You can connect it to your cloud service if you subscribe or you can add an SD card to the SD card slot and depending on the size of the SD card you won’t miss a moment of capture video depending on your settings. I had no idea that it was packed full of features like auto scan where it slowly spins and scans the room horizontally and vertically. It also has motion tracking where once it detects motion it will track a person through the room. The night vision is like looking At the video in daytime And you can see everything very clearly and even make out small objects. I own several Yi cameras which I picked up all of them at a great price but at the price point for this camera it’s absolutely outstanding with all the features that it comes with. It has facial detection and recognition so when you do get a notification you’ll know right away when you look at it if it’s someone who should be there or not. I think this camera would be great for any home or office. It also has a mountable base where you can hang it from the ceiling and flip the image 180° it pans, tilts, zooms and the nighttime IR lighting is amazing! I’m actually thinking about replacing my older indoor cams and upgrading them all to this particular one. Again for the price I was very pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend checking this camera and as I said before I’ll probably end up replacing all of my cameras for this one. Amazing cam, great price!

    Good camera, service has issues

Purchased my first camera 2 years ago and liked what i saw so got another 3 cameras for my home. Was happy with the subscription price and functionality of cameras. Decided to upgrade to a HD camera after owning four 1080p cameras for 2 years. Over the past few months there have been a LOT of updates to the app and none were great. My notifications are spotty, app controls to view each camera live take a few seconds to load camera. Before was almost instant. App controls and help are basic and offer little explanation. There subscribe area doesnt even tell you what subscription you have unless you click on ‘subscribe’. Customer service is almost non-existent, went and Google’d help. It’s an affordable system and if you have patience and just want a BASIC package then this is it. For those control heavy and worry about the zones the cameras are patrolling, then you may want to look elsewhere for now. I was completely happy on the way this system works, easily upgraded, and affordable. I still am content but would like it to return to what is was regarding the app and notifications.

They really want you to pay for the cloud

The cameras work fine. Maybe a little too sensitive with “person detected”. The app is decent. You will be straight up punished with pop ups to sign up for the cloud service. It’s obnoxious. I don’t want the cloud. An SD card is fine for me.
